Family tour: Through the museum at night
Equipped with a headlamp and UV torch, they can explore terra mineralia Dunkeln.
On an exciting tour through the dark exhibition, families observe which mineral fluoresces in which colour. In addition, in a special room in the exhibition - the "Journey into the Light" - selected minerals are irradiated with ultraviolet light. This part of the sunlight has such a high energy that it causes sunburn in people, but it stimulates some minerals to glow in a special way.
In the hands-on laboratory "Research Journey", families can then get to the bottom of the phenomenon of fluorescence together. In various experiments, students from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg explain what light is actually made of, where ultraviolet light, which is invisible to humans, comes from and what other forces can also trigger a glow.
