Get ready for a very special excursion!

Fluorescent minerals glow in all colours in the showcases for you and your family. During experiments, you can also create the phenomenon of luminescence in pudding, eggs and washing powder.

Equipped with a headlamp and UV torch, you can explore terra mineralia in the dark.

On an exciting tour through the dark exhibition, families can observe which mineral fluoresces in which colour. In addition, selected minerals are irradiated with ultraviolet light in a special room in the exhibition - the ‘Journey into Light’. This part of sunlight has such a high energy that it causes sunburn in humans; however, it causes some minerals to glow in a particular colour.

Families can get to the bottom of the phenomenon of fluorescence together in the hands-on laboratory ‘Forschungsreise’. The students at TU Bergakademie Freiberg will explain what light actually consists of, where the ultraviolet light that is invisible to humans comes from and which other forces can also trigger a glow.

Please arrive at least 15-30 minutes early to buy your tickets. Reserved tickets can only be purchased on the day booked. If you would like to visit the exhibition and/or shop in the museum shop before the tour, please allow sufficient time for this as well.

Cancellations can be made free of charge up to 3 days before the reserved date. If appointments are not cancelled in good time, the tour fee per person will be charged.
