New offer! Next date: 3 June 2026
Public guided tour: Architecture tour
Over the course of its 850-year history, the castle has seen a great deal: from a fortress protecting the silver mines, to the residence of the Saxon Electors, and on to a military hospital or granary. Throughout history, the castle has served many purposes – and has been extensively remodelled.
Anyone wishing to find out how it came to look as it does today and what facilities are still hidden behind its thick walls can join the architectural tour. This tour not only examines the castle from the outside, but also opens hidden doors. Such as the rooms of the mining archive, the oldest visible traces of the fortress, or the old castle courtyard.
This public tour takes place once a quarter, on Wednesdays from 2.30 pm.
Dates for 2026 are 3 June, 2 September and 4 November.
