The Association of Large Families (Verband kinderreicher Familien e.V.) has awarded terra mineralia, the mineral exhibition at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, its ‘fair family’ seal of approval, certifying that the exhibition is particularly child-friendly. Today (29 August), terra mineralia's managing director, Andrea Riedel, will receive the seal from the association.

The exhibition at Freudenstein Castle in Freiberg offers exhibition elements and services that have been specially developed for children and their parents or grandparents. ‘We want to enable cultural participation and be an inclusive place for people of all ages. When families – even those with more than two children – visit our exhibition and have fun instead of stress, it benefits our younger visitors in particular,’ says terra mineralia Managing Director Andrea Riedel. ‘The fair family seal recognises this commitment.’

All exhibition rooms are accessible by lift; child-friendly staff and specially trained students from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg are on hand to answer questions about minerals. There is a large seating area where visitors can eat and drink during breaks. Family-friendly admission prices round off the offer for families. ‘terra mineralia is not only an attractive destination for families in Saxony, but also an extracurricular learning centre for the raw materials researchers of tomorrow,’ says Riedel happily.

Second award for family friendliness

According to the association, the fair-family seal is awarded to facilities with a family-friendly pricing policy and activities that cater to different age groups. Changing tables, accessibility, play facilities and child-friendly staff are also important criteria. terra mineralia was nominated by the association.
