Freiberg Colloquium “30 Years of the Solar Industry in Freiberg”
Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Armin Müller
Bayer Solar GmbH was founded on 1 August 1994 and with it a new forward-looking industry, the solar industry, was established in Freiberg. The 30th anniversary of the founding of Bayer Solar GmbH in 2024 should therefore be an occasion to present the development of Freiberg as a solar location since 1994 in a lecture as part of the Freiberg Colloquium. The founding of Bayer Solar GmbH in 1994 was the starting signal for the development of Freiberg as a solar location. In 2000, Bayer Solar GmbH was taken over by Solarworld AG, which was followed by a further successful expansion of the Freiberg solar location into the main location of the Solarworld group of companies. After the severe crisis in the solar industry in Germany a few years ago, which also left its mark on Freiberg, the solar location Freiberg has been successfully strengthened again in the past three years through the activities of Meyer & Burger and other Freiberg companies, even if dark clouds are currently looming over the solar location in Freiberg again.
The Freiberg Colloquium is a series of lectures by the Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology, the Saxon State Archives/Mining Archives Freiberg, the Saxon Mining Authority, the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the Helmholtz Institute for Resource Research, terra mineralia and the Geocompetence Center Freiberg e.V.
